BLOW OFF SILENCER

Blow off silencer is a type of vent silencer. The blow down of highly compressed vapour or gas into the open air sets kinetic energy free in the form of high amplitude pressure fluctuations. The result is an extremely high sound pressure level which must be reduced. Such emission can be very effectively being limited with blow-off silencers.

For the design of the silencer the following information is needed

• Type of fluid (Gas or Steam);
• Temperature and Pressure upstream (before) valve;
• Permissible sound pressure level at Emission point (in defined distance) E.g. 85 dB(A) in 1m distance and
• Diameter of inlet nozzle.
